Maintenance of your Star Water Filter®

The frequency of maintenance will depend mainly on the hardness and quality of the water you filter. The harder the water (i.e. the higher the level of limescale), the less frequent the maintenance will have to be. If the water is very hard or contains sediment, these particles are likely to accumulate in your tanks, in the tap and around the filter.
Normal maintenance frequency is between 2 and 3 months at the beginning of your filter's life. If the water is hard or contains sediment or dirt, the interval between cleaning operations may be shorter, in the region of 1 to 2 months. After the first year's use of your filters, this interval can be further reduced to compensate for the loss of flow due to the accumulation of pollutants.

Tank maintenance

Over time, limescale and other sediment can build up on the inside of the tanks. We recommend cleaning with lukewarm water mixed with 50% household vinegar.

• Cleaning the upper tank

Prior to this operation, it is essential to remove the filters , which must never be brought into contact with anything other than water.

Once the filters have been removed, use a soft sponge (do not use the abrasive part of the sponge on the stainless steel as this will scratch it) to clean the inside of the tanks with a mixture of water and household vinegar. If traces of limescale are deeply embedded in the stainless steel, spray with pure household vinegar, leave for a few minutes and rinse.

Rinse the entire bowl with clean water.

• Cleaning the lower bowl

The same cleaning principle as for the upper tank can be applied to the inner tank. First, unscrew the tap to avoid damaging it and to clean it.

Note: the outside of the tanks can be cleaned using our super cleaner, which will remove all traces of dirt and restore their sparkling appearance.

Tap maintenance

Over time, sediment and limescale can build up in the body of the tap, causing it to leak.

Regular cleaning is recommended.

If you have not already done so, remove the tap by unscrewing it from the lower bowl. Open it (so that the water can drain out), turn it upside down and pour in some household vinegar. Leave for a few houts and rinse well under running water. If you notice any limescale remaining, repeat the operation. You can also soak the tap completely in vinegar water for a few hours.

Filter maintenance

ATTENTION, the filters must never be put in contact with any product, only water, otherwise they will become unusable.

If you notice a drop in flow or a build-up of sediment or limescale around your filters, even though they have not reached the end of their service life (6000 litres per pair or more than two years' use), you should clean the filter surface to remove any sediment or limescale that may have accumulated.

Your filter is made up of different layers of filtration, including a layer of activated carbon that forms the outer shell. This is made up of thousands of micro-channels that can become blocked over time. This part can be lightly abraded to remove a little of the surface and eliminate any pores that may be clogged and responsible for a possible slowdown in filtration.

Proceed gently with a sponge, without using the abrasive part if it has one. By rubbing the outside surface of the filter under water, you will remove some of the material. Black residue will appear on your sponge, this is normal. The peripheral part of the filter will change appearance, becoming smoother and less powdery. Rub the entire surface of the filter without excess.

Once this operation has been completed, prime your filters again, then replace them in your system.

Changing filters

Filter life is set at 6,000 litres for a pair. This is not so much a limitation on the filter's capacity to remove pollutants, but more for reasons of filtration rate, which will diminish over time through clogging. We therefore recommend changing your filters when they have filtered around this volume of water, or when you've been using them for around two years.

Usage reminder

The Star Water Filter® system is designed for standalone domestic use. It can be used with tap water, but also with water whose origin and quality are known, intended for consumption, provided that the precautions for use indicated in the user instructions are followed.

However, it should not be considered a sole and automatic treatment solution in the event of suspected microbiological, chemical or accidental contamination.

Cleaning and maintenance must always be carried out with clean, potable water in order to avoid any contamination of the system or the filter cartridges.

Regularly clean the chambers, lid, tap and all parts in contact with water, in accordance with the recommendations in the user instructions. Do not use aggressive, abrasive or non-food-safe products.

Filtered water is intended to be consumed quickly. It is recommended to consume it within 24 hours after filtration, and within a maximum of 48 hours. Do not leave water standing for several days in the lower chamber.

In the event of a prolonged absence, or if filtered water has remained in the system for more than 48 hours, empty the chamber, clean the system, then refill it with suitable water.

If you notice an unusual smell, abnormal taste, cloudy appearance or unusual deposit, do not consume the water present in the system. Empty the chamber, clean the system and check the condition of the cartridges before using it again.
