Pesticides in tap water, more and more...

Discover the alarming findings of the 2024 report on pesticides in drinking water and why Star Water Filter® gravity water filters are an effective solution to protect your family.

Is tap water really safe for your family?

A ministerial report published at the end of 2024 by the IGAS (Inspection Générale des Affaires Sociales), the IGEDD (Inspection Générale de l'Environnement et du Développement Durable) and the CGAAER (Conseil Général de l'Alimentation, de l'Agriculture et des Espaces Ruraux) sounded the alarm: in France, more than 10 million people could be consuming tap water contaminated with pesticides or their metabolites, some of which clearly exceed current health standards. However, these substances are often invisible to the naked eye and have no particular taste or smell.

In light of this, it is now more important than ever to take individual protective measures to ensure that the water we consume is as safe as possible.

Widespread but poorly monitored pollution

The interministerial report of November 2024 notes an ‘overall failure’ in the protection of drinking water from pesticides and their degradation products, or metabolites.

Many sensors had to be taken out of service and more than 12,500 water catchments were abandoned between 1980 and 2019, often due to persistent diffuse pollution.

According to a recent survey, 97% of groundwater in France contains pesticide metabolites, and 20% of these aquifers exceed regulatory thresholds, which are already limited to very low concentrations (0.1 µg/L).

Where controls do exist, only 23 of the 79 metabolites identified are actually tested for by the health authorities: a huge proportion remains undetected, potentially leaving millions of people exposed to these harmful substances.

In the middle of summer 2025, the Duplomb law, sponsored by Senator Laurent Duplomb, was passed by the National Assembly. Among other things, it provides for the reauthorisation of powerful pesticides, such as acetamiprid and flupyradifuron, which had previously been banned due to their proven toxicity.

For public water authorities and environmental associations, this text represents a serious threat to public health and water quality, in direct contradiction with European directives on pesticides and the principle of environmental non-regression. The FNE (France Nature Environnement) clearly states that the Duplomb law weakens environmental protections and exposes France to new European sanctions.

For the general public, this legislative change renews feelings of uncertainty about the reliability of the water supplied, particularly in agricultural regions where pressure to use pesticides could increase significantly.

Protecting yourself at home: why is an Ultimate Star Filter® a good solution?

The good news is that there are effective solutions to protect against contaminants in tap water. The first step is to find out about the quality of the water in your area (via the annual reports of the ARS or tools such as the interactive map from UFC-Que Choisir). If you live in a rural area or have doubts about your water, you can have a potability analysis carried out. But for everyday use, the simplest and most immediate protection tool is still a domestic water filter.

By installing a filtration unit in your home, you add an extra barrier to retain unwanted substances before consumption.

Ultimate Star Filter® filter elements are innovative, patented composite filters designed to eliminate or drastically reduce a wide range of pollutants: toxic chemicals, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, medicines, petroleum residues, solvents, chlorine, etc.

Families have every reason to adopt this type of protection, especially for infants, children and pregnant women, who are more vulnerable to toxins and microbes in water.

Similarly, in rural areas, a high-performance filter compensates for any failures in a small local network or the risks associated with private boreholes. But even in towns and cities, adding a filter to your home provides welcome peace of mind: you drink purified water, free from the taste of chlorine and protected from invisible pollutants that may be present.

Alarming findings: today's drinking water calls for renewed vigilance

The 2024 ministerial report reveals worrying levels of contamination of drinking water by invisible and insufficiently monitored pesticides.

The recent Duplomb law, which reopens the use of certain controversial chemicals, is a reminder that legislative changes do not always guarantee better public health.

Faced with these latent risks, individual action is becoming strategic: staying informed about the quality of your local water, but also adopting a reliable home filtration system.

A Star Water Filter® system significantly reduces exposure to pollutants, whether they have already been detected or not. It is a responsible choice for any family, especially in rural or sensitive areas. To make a glass of water a simple gesture of health and peace of mind, equip yourself now by choosing a model suited to your needs.
