Installation and priming Ultimate Star Filter® filter elements
Whether you are installing your system for the first time, replacing your filters, or reassembling your system after storing your filters while you are away, you need to prime your filters before installing them in the upper tank.
Your filters are made up of several filter media, including activated carbon with tiny pores and micro-channels. These micro-channels are originally filled with air. Because filters work solely by gravity, the pressure allowing water to pass through the filter is very low. If air remains trapped inside the filter, the water will not be able to push it out and will be blocked, resulting in a very slow flow rate, or even none at all.
It is therefore necessary to prime the filter before installation.
Priming consists of pushing water with a certain pressure inside the filter to expel the air. This is done using a silicone nipple or a silicone priming washer.
This operation is described in detail on our Star Water Filter® system start-up page.
