How should Ultimate Star Filter® water filters be stored?
There are a number of situations in which Ultimate Star Filter® filters need to be stored.
New filters
New filters, unopened and in their original packaging, can be kept indefinitely provided they are stored in a dry, dark and, above all, odour-free place. Activated carbon has the property of absorbing odours and the filter can then concentrate these fragrances and release them when they are put back into service.
Filters already in use
It all depends on the length of absence.
- For an absence of 3 days or less, simply leave them in place in the upper tank.
- For an absence of more than 3 days and less than or equal to 7 days, you should dismantle them and store them in an airtight bag (like a freezer bag) in the fridge, without freezing them.
- For an absence of more than 7 days, you need to dismantle them, dry them by holding them in a vertical position, with the threaded stem at the bottom, and leave them to dry for at least 2 or 3 days. Once completely dry, you can store them in a cool, dry, odour-free place, ideally in a paper bag.
If you're away for more than 3 days, you'll need to put the filters back into service.
