Why do black particles sometimes appear in my upper tank?
When you start using your gravity water filtration system or when you maintain your filters after cleaning, black particles may appear in your upper tank. These are grains of activated carbon that have come loose from the outer edge of your filter. This is normal and has no impact on filtration quality or health.
Our Ultimate Star Filter® is a composite filter consisting of several filter elements, and the outer layer is an assembly of low-pressure moulded activated carbon (patented process) to maintain a fast filtration rate. The outer density is therefore deliberately lower than on a conventional activated carbon filter, which means that a tiny amount may come loose and cause this phenomenon. However, there is no need to worry about this deposit, as our filter is made exclusively from completely harmless components (see our REACH analysis). Furthermore, as these residues are contained in the upper tank, they will not pass into the lower tank containing the filtered water.
Simply remove them during your next tank maintenance and cleaning.
